WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT
1. It is unlawful for an insurance company to require more than one estimate or appraisal.
2. The insurance company may want you to visit their drive-in center.
3. They can not require you to go to a certain shop. You have the option of taking your vehicle to any collision repair shop of your choice.
4. Remember, as a claimant you are automatically entitled to a rental car for the time your car is in the shop.
5. You must notify your insurance company before repairs are initiated. Your insurance policy requires you to notify your company or agent, make a report and then tell them where the damaged vehicle may be inspected.
6. Who is responsible for the repairs? The shop you authorize to do the work. That is why it is important to select a repair facility that is properly trained and equipped to restore your vehicle to its pre-accident condition.
7. After the repair is completed but before you take your vehicle home, look it over carefully. Check the electronic accessories, pay attention to details such as doors, hood and deck lid opening and closing smoothly. On the way home, listen for unusual noises and test the handling. The collision repair shop will provide you with a completed break-down of the repairs done and what parts were replaced, if any.
8. If you do not understand the final invoice prepared on your vehicle, please ask the repair shop. They will be happy to explain.
9. If there is a problem with the repair job, who should I contact? The manager of the shop, immediately. Most reputable shops offer a life-time warranty for parts and labor. By selecting a shop that is I-Car/Gold Class certified, you will be sure to receive quality workmanship.
If your problem still is not resolved, contact your insurance company claims manager. You may also wish to contact the Better Business Bureau or the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney Generals office.
10. Never drive your vehicle if it is unsafe or illegal to drive. (For example: All headlights and taillights must be in operating order.)
11. Call ALKI AUTO BODY, INC. to set-up an appointment for an estimate of damages on your vehicle.
12. ALKI AUTO BODY, INC. will be most happy to assist you with towing, rental car needs and we will work directly with the insurance company.
